You find cairns on the tops of mountains or as markers on a faint trail.
Those who have built them say to those who come after them: This is a
special place. Or: This helped me find my way when I was nearly lost. There
is a cairn near here on a headland overlooking Ynys Enlli, Bardsey Island.
It is called Pen-y-cil and is about three miles along the the coastal path.
Simply keep the sea on your left!
But first help to build a cairn of stones in this church.
Bring a small stone or pebble from the beach and place it here. It is a
simple act and it doesn’t cost you any money. It may help to remind you and
us that we are all equal in the eyes of God.
You might like to put a name on the pebble with the marker pen - your own
name or perhaps the name of someone who means much to you in your life.
Hold the stone in your hand for a while, and ask yourself where you are on
life’s journey, or what you most deeply desire, or how you can learn to love
and be loved. Hold the question in the silence and presence of this place of
prayer.
When you have put your stone here, stand back for a few moments. Ask a
blessing for the person you are thinking of. And for yourself.
Think too of all the others who have placed stones here, or will do so after
you have left. Together we can too much more than on our own to bring
compassion and justice to this world.
On the last Sunday in October, at the end of the morning service, we shall
return the pebbles to the sea. We are involved with one another and with all
creation in the great web of life. And who knows what wonders we have yet to
see as we use our telescopes and microscopes to look far and deep, and who
knows what wonders are in store in dimensions of life beyond death.
Be hopeful. Be expectant. Drive safely. Otherwise take risks.

ein bod ni i gyd yn gydradd yng ngolwg Duw.
Efallai y carech chi roi enw ar y garreg gyda’r pin ffelt – eich enw eich
hun, neu efallai enw rhywun sy’n golygu llawer i chi yn eich bywyd. Daliwch
y garreg yn eich llaw am ychydig, a gofynnwch i chi eich hun ymhle’r ydych
chi ar daith bywyd, neu beth ydych chi’n dyheu fwyaf amdano, neu sut gallwch
chi ddysgu sut mae caru a chael eich caru. Myfyriwch yn dawel ar y cwestiwn
yn y man gweddi hwn.
Pan fyddwch chi wedi rhoi eich carreg yma, cymerwch gam neu ddau yn ôl am
ennyd. Gofynnwch am fendith ar yr un rydych chi’n meddwl amdano neu amdani.
Ac am fendith arnoch chi.
Meddyliwch hefyd am bawb arall sydd wedi rhoi
cerrig yma, neu a fydd yn gwneud hynny ar ôl i chi adael. Fe allwn ni wneud
llawer mwy gyda’n gilydd na’r hyn a allwn ni ar ben ein hunain i ddod â
thrugaredd a chyfiawnder i’r byd hwn.
Ar y Sul olaf yn Hydref, ar ddiwedd y gwasanaeth boreol, fe wnawn ni
ddychwelyd y cerrig i’r môr. Rydym i gyd yn gysylltiedig â’n gilydd, ac â’r
holl greadigaeth yng ngwe fawr bywyd. A phwy a ŵyr pa ryfeddodau nad ydym
wedi eu gweld eto wrth i ni ddefnyddio ein telesgopau a’n microsgopau i
chwilio ymhell ac yn ddwfn, a phwy a ŵyr pa ryfeddodau sydd yn ein disgwyl
yn nimensiynau bywyd ar ôl marwolaeth. Byddwch yn obeithiol. Byddwch yn
ddisgwylgar. Gyrrwch yn bwyllog. Fel arall, mentrwch. |
